Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) at Influencity

What is Strong Customer Authentication (SCA)?

SCA is a European regulatory requirement introduced on September 14, 2019, that reduces fraud when making online and contactless payments. Basically, it’s an extra layer of security that introduces an additional step when going through a checkout process online

In order to meet SCA requirements, companies must build additional authentication into their checkout flow. This includes at least 2 of the following elements:

  • Something the customer knows (a password or pin).
  • Something the customer has (a phone that can receive an authentication code).
  • Something the customer is (fingerprints or face authentication).

How Does SCA Work in Influencity?

SCA means that you must take an additional step to authenticate your payment method when purchasing an Influencity product within Europe or with an EU-issued credit card. To do this, you’ll be asked to authenticate the transaction with your bank using an additional form of verification. This will be your bank’s own interface and their selected method of two-factor authentication, for example:

  • A one-time code sent to your phone.
  • Fingerprint authentication through a mobile banking app.

When Is SCA Needed?

You’ll be prompted to complete the two-factor authentication after selecting your payment method on the checkout page

The type of authentication needed depends on your particular bank. If you have questions about the methods your bank has set up, please contact your bank for more information.

Warning: some banks will not require you to complete two-factor authentication for recurring purchases. Others, however, may decline the payment, meaning you will need to verify the payment method from month to month. For more information on this, please contact your bank.

Troubleshooting

What if I Can’t Complete the Two-Factor Authentication?

To complete this process you must:

  1. Be the owner of the credit or debit card.
  2. Complete the authentication process within 10 minutes of being prompted.

If you’re not able to successfully authorize your payment, please reach out to your bank or add another card to complete the purchase.

How Do I Know if My SCA Was Successful?

If you don’t receive a decline message and are able to proceed to the next step, your SCA is considered successful.
